The Seven Levels of Telepathy

By George A. Boyd © 2015

Many people have had the odd experience of thinking of someone, only to have them call or show up at the door. These experiences, however, are seemingly random, and cannot be easily controlled.

A few intrepid individuals refine this gift, and they can turn on and off the gift of telepathy at will. Once they have progressed beyond the first stage of hearing and feeling the thoughts of others, they may expand their abilities to specialize in one or more level(s) of telepathy. We further divide these six bands of telepathic communication into zones of spiritual telepathy and practical telepathy.

Spiritual telepathy aims to capture wisdom and guidance for the Soul, to understand metaphysical truths, and to learn about the mysteries of spirituality.

Practical telepathy aims to comfort the living, to deal with episodes of haunting, and to assist others to communicate and make their wishes known, when they are otherwise unable to do so.

Spiritual telepathy includes levels five to seven:

  • At level 7 telepathy, you are able to contact spiritual Masters.
  • At level 6, you can commune with Angels, or with gods and goddesses.
  • At level 5, you communicate with “Alien intelligences,” “old souls,” or departed historical figures.

Practical telepathy has four levels:

  • At level 4, you are able to get into touch with the spirits of the departed, relatives or friends who have died
  • At level 3, you can become aware of earthbound spirits or ghosts, and mentally tune into them
  • Level 2 telepathy enables you to give a voice to children, or mentally ill or disabled people, who cannot speak or otherwise communicate their needs, wishes, or experiences.
  • At level 1, your telepathic gift awakens, and you have initial experiences of hearing and feeling others’ thoughts.

Telepathy combines three functions:

  1. Subtle sensing – those with this gift may have inner impressions of sight, sound, and touch; some may even receive smell and taste impressions
  2. Empathic emotional connection – those with this gift feel that they can enter the private or sacred space of another and commune with their inner essence
  3. Intuitive thought reception – this modality enables the telepath to hear others’ thoughts and feel others’ wishes

Those who have the telepathic gift may receive information from all three channels in varying amounts, depending on whom they are trying to contact. Some psychics with this gift may have much stronger affinity with one of these modalities, and it may predominate for them; others may have a more balanced reception on all three channels.

There are a variety of ways that people receive telepathic impressions from others. These include:

  1. Placing their attention upon the spirit, attentional principle, or Soul of another – This places a telepath directly in the thought and intentional stream of another. They report what they hear. They must enter a state of trance to access this information.
  2. Encountering the astral body of another – The telepath can travel on the inner Planes as the attentional principle or the spirit and behold the astral body of another. Those with the faculty of inner seeing awakened can see the changing colors of the aura of the astral body of another, which gives a visual reference of their emotions, as they are experiencing them. Those who have the faculty of inner hearing awakened can distinctly hear the thoughts of another, as if the other were speaking to them. This type is commonly used for to work with another person for practical telepathy purposes. This also requires that the telepath enter a state of meditative absorption to receive this information.
  3. Receiving intuition from their Higher Self – In this type, the telepath may ask their own Higher Self what the other person is thinking and feeling, and it reports back this information. In some cases, the telepath’s Higher Self bridges or connects with the Higher Self of the other individual, and “channels” their thoughts and intentions. This type can be done while the telepath’s attention is in the waking state of awareness.
  4. Numinous encounter – This type of telepathic reception occurs when the attentional principle or spirit communes with the inner spiritual form of a spiritual being: a departed individual, entities of the Psychic Realm, angels, gods and goddesses, and the guide forms of Masters. This type is able to gather information from levels 3 to 7, and is primarily used for spiritual telepathy. This requires a deeper stage of meditative absorption than communing with the astral body of another person.
  5. Akashic Records replay – This type of telepathic gift is found in those who do past life readings. They hear the thoughts and wishes of other individuals as these are recorded on the Akashic Aether, or Resonance Aether. This type of telepathic reception can be done in one of two ways: (a) they receive this information intuitively, and they can do so in their waking awareness; or (b) they travel onto the Aether with their attentional principle, and report what they see and hear—this requires they enter into an altered state of awareness. For not only actions and words are recorded here, but also the resonance of thoughts and intentions—those who are very sensitive and still can detect them.
  6. Intimations of the Holy Spirit or the Light – Some telepaths invoke the Holy Spirit, which grants them the gift of knowledge—to know the motivations, thoughts, and intentions of others. These telepaths feel that the Divine Presence overshadows them, and it performs the reading of the other person’s thoughts and intentions. This type can be performed in the waking state, though many who receive this Divine unction feel that they are “caught up into the Spirit”—e.g., are lifted into an altered state of awareness.
  7. Using a representational or projective modality to discern others’ thoughts and intentions – These telepaths use a projective modality to focus their empathic sensing of another. For example, a tarot card reader might use the projective modality of the two of cups card to indicate that the querent has issues in the area of intimate relationship. As the reader contemplates this card and feels the essence of the other person, he or she may distinctly hear the thoughts and wishes of the other person in this area. This type of telepathic reception occurs in a light state of trance, where the reader can focus completely on the evocative image.

Those with the telepathic gift may receive information from the other individual at different strata of the Higher Mind. These layers of global intuitive prehension can include:

  • At the neurological level, thoughts produce a distinct electrical signal distributed to discrete neuronal pathways. Those electrical signals sent to certain pathways in the brain can, for example, evoke memories, activate logical reasoning circuits, recall spatial environments, or generate action.
  • At the subatomic level, these electrical cascades present different patterns. Some psychics may be able to recognize these patterns.
  • On the Information Aether, they present as the numerical and symbolic data of mathematics, as visual and graphic arrays, as letters in written communication, as words in spoken communication, as analog spectrum representations, or as digital data.
  • On the Resonance Aether, the quiet resonance of thought can be heard.
  • On the Life Force Aether, thoughts can be seen to be conveyers of the Life Force.
  • On the Desire Aether, which is the abode of the Law of Attraction, thoughts can be seen to either attract or repel desired outcomes. Sensitive individuals tapping into this level can notice why people continue to attract conditions that cause them misery and unhappiness.
  • On the Thought Form Aether, thoughts appear as animated three-dimensional forms. The psychic who taps into this level may actually see the thoughts of another portrayed as little cartoon characters, or subpersonalities, which give specific information about the querent’s issues.

Upon reflection, it appears that, at whatever levels individuals express their telepathic gift, whatever means they use to activate their gift, and what strata of the mind they tap to make the invisible force of thought tangible—telepathy will remain enigmatic and mysterious; slightly outside of the respectable threshold of science; well-established in the realm of mystics, psychics, and dreamers; regarded with skepticism and wonder—and will persist in the human psyche, whether we believe it is valid or not.

Those who wish to know more about the mechanics of activating their telepathic gift will value from taking our Psychic Powers Workshop, which is available in our Public Webinar series. We also recommend that you acquire the book, The Psychic Realm: Finding Safe Passage through the Worlds of Illusion, which you can order on our Mudrashram® Publishing website.

Filters on Perception Revisited

By George A. Boyd © 2020

Q: What makes people’s perceptions of the world so different?

A: There are seven major filters that operate in the mind. These are:

  1. Neurological filter – Neurons grow and interconnect based on your experiences and learning.
  2. Subconscious memory filter – You sift perception through what you have experienced, and relate the events of your lives to what you already know.
  3. Intellectual filter – You learn certain things about the world through your education and study. Those who learn different things make different models of the world.
  4. Philosophical filter – When you inquire about life’s deep mysteries in your quest for meaning, your intuition may give you answers unique to you.
  5. Veil of the causal body (Karmic filter) – These are the patterns of your karma that give rise to the issues and challenges that color your perception of what is possible to attain and achieve.
  6. Focal point of meditation (attentional filter) – The content you experience in meditation depends on where you focus your attention. For example, you experience different content if you focus your attention on the Moon Soul nucleus of identity than when you focus on the Supracosmic seed atom of a Supracosmic Path.
  7. Cosmological contextual filter – Depending on the personal or spiritual essence with which you identify, the level of the Continuum of Consciousness in which you appear to dwell conditions what archetypes or dimensional strata of the mind you perceive. The possibilities of knowledge (what you can know), love and virtue (how you relate to others), and ability (what you can do in that perspective) vary between different cosmological contexts.

These seven filters make you an individual unlike anyone else. But despite your individuality, there are things that you do share with others.

For example, sometimes you will share common experiences and learning with others, or your intuition gives you the same answers that others hold. Perhaps you are meditating on the same spiritual Path as someone else, and identify with the same spiritual essence.

While you do have these shared, overlapping experiences, there are many aspects that are unique to you.

We suggest that you contemplate each of these filters to notice how it influences your perception. Then consider, what would you experience if that filter weren’t there? [For number six, consider what you might behold if you placed your attention on another level of the Great Continuum of Consciousness, on another spiritual Path than the one you currently know.]

In one of the modules of our intermediate mediation programs, the in-person Mudrashram® Master Course in Meditation and the by-mail and online Accelerated Meditation Program, we have our students do chants from different spiritual traditions, so they can glimpse alternate zones of the Great Continuum of Consciousness, where different groups perform their spiritual practices.

If you are an open-minded explorer of your inner worlds, you may be able to discover how others perceive the world as they do—and how this perspective may be startlingly different than the one you embrace. You also then discover how their perception colors their values, beliefs, attitudes, and behavior, and makes them the unique individuals they are.

As you behold them embedded within their contexts of relationships, the groups to which they belong, and the worldview that they embrace, you can begin to grasp the complex filters through which they orient themselves to reality—and create a vision of the world so very different than your own.

Keys to Crystal Clear Meditation

By George A. Boyd © 2020

Q: Why are my meditations hazy and indistinct. I don’t see anything clearly. Is there a way I can enhance my inner vision?

A: First you must consider the reasons why your meditations are not clear. One of the reasons for this is that your awareness remains engaged with levels where you are not having pure spiritual experience. Let’s look at these seven levels:

  1. Physical body awareness – At this level you are aware of the physical body sensations correlated to higher spiritual experience. For example, you might feel pressure in your chest when your attentional principle ascends through the First Planetary Initiation. You might also feel this physical body correlation if your spirit on the Second Transcendental Path ascended to the top of the Causal Plane—here you would feel the pressure in your forehead above the top of your nose. [Aspirants and disciples whose awareness operates in this level correlate spiritual experience to an anatomical reference in the body.]
  2. Energetic awareness – At this level you are aware of the flow of life force through the vortices of the chakras, circulating through the channels running through your etheric body (meridians), or super fine channels (nadis) that channel mental activity. If you practice hatha yoga, perform martial arts practices, or do intensive breathing exercises (Pranayama), you may become aware of the movement of the life force through these inner channels. Those who have been initiated into Kundalini may also feel this energy rising through the central channel (Sushumna) through the chakras up into the brain.
  3. Emotional awareness – At this level, you become aware of your emotions. They may personify as “entities,” “thought forms,” or “subpersonalities.” You become highly aware of your own feelings and the feelings of other people (empathy). A flood of feelings and memories arise within you unbidden: at this level it feels like you are in perpetual process. Spirituality here expresses as qualities of goodness and love—you feel your spiritual nature embodies the higher emotions such as unconditional love, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, kindness, joy, and grace. You may become very conscientious or scrupulous when you are operating at this level, and you may obsess about eliminating your darker passions such as lust, greed, anger, jealousy, envy, craving, and egotism.
  4. Thinking awareness – At this level, you are immersed in your thoughts. You are aware of the power of your volition, and you may feel that you can accomplish anything upon which you set your mind. Your meditations are a waterfall of thinking that will not let up.
  5. Impressions awareness – At this level, you become aware of a voidness of consciousness that is in the background of all your mental activity; in front of it are golden and black impressions that look like copper or iron filings. These correspond to your karma contained in your unconscious mind. You become aware that each karmic impression has an associated physical, energetic, emotional, and mental expression. You witness these impressions stirring into motion as physical sensations, flow of energy, emotions and desires, and thoughts and fantasies. You watch them arise and pass away.
  6. Pure spiritual awareness – When you break through to this level, you are able to exist and operate freely as your attentional principle and your spirit. You actually dwell in the spiritual Planes, and you witness the content of these numinous realms with crystal clarity. You have full recall of your spiritual experiences. The senses of your astral body, your attention, your attentional principle, and your spirit function without obstruction. You experience this state after death and in the experience of Samadhi. Those meditators who can break through into Samadhi can access this higher order experience.
  7. Illumined awareness – At this level, you realize your ensouling entity, and your Illumined Mind begins to operate fully—your intuition and discernment function at their full capacity. At this level, you can teach and guide others through the spiritual Planes.

Your challenge is to disengage your attention and awareness from levels one through five and rise into level six. Methods that have been developed to ostensibly help aspirants and disciples achieve this trans-noetic state include:

  1. Vipassana – This is the practice of present time monitoring of physical sensations (1-physical), monitoring the breath (2-energetic), on feelings (3-emotions), on active mental activity (4a-thinking), the activity of the ego (4b-identity), and the voidness of consciousness (5-impressions). You pay attention to what arises in the present time at each of these levels, and continue paying attention until you break through into a higher state of awareness. Transcending all five of these strata of the mind purportedly yields immersion in unbroken union with the attentional principle or the spirit.
  2. Use of silent mantra – Ostensibly, selecting a mantra that awakens awareness and enables your attention to tunnel through these strata of the mind can lead to immersion in the trans-luminal state. The “thought bubble mantra” method that Transcendental Meditation™ teachers advocate, for example, is purported to produce this effect; the actual experience of practitioners suggests that most TM-ers do not practice this method with the requisite tenacity and focus to actually experience this breakthrough. Most report going into a deeply relaxed state in which they let go of stress. Many groups recommend long periods of mental repetition of mantras to breakthrough into ecstatic, clear states of mind—like TM, most aspirants and disciples drone on with their monotonous mantra repetition, but only rarely experience states of transcendence and immersion in worlds of supernal wonder.
  3. Chanting – Those groups that embrace chanting proclaim that one-pointed chanting with devotion and love for God and Guru will transport you into spiritual worlds of light and beauty. A few devotees have used this method to enter truly sublime and blissful states of consciousness, but most do not reach these levels of inner clarity—even though they chant all night.
  4. Concentration – If you use the time-honored method of focusing your attention, allowing your awareness to fully open, and letting your attention to fully merge with the object of meditation, this can lead to awakening as the attentional principle or the spirit. Many aspirants and disciples find this Raja Yoga approach difficult, however, as their attention readily wanders, and they cannot sustain this process to gain complete union and identification with their attentional principle and spirit.
  5. Self-analysis – This method uses self-observation and discernment to isolate the attentional principle and the spirit—and in some traditions, this is applied to a selected nucleus of identity or an ensouling entity. The “Who am I?” process that Ramana Maharshi popularized is an example of this method. Those who have a powerful intellect may be able to use this approach to enter the trans-noetic zone—many seekers, however, have a difficulty understanding and recognizing what is the attentional principle, what is the spirit, what is the Atman, what is the heart mind, or other targets for realization of this inquiry process that different groups select.
  6. Absorption (Laya) – This method suggests that if you will drop your attention into inner sensory or energetic streams for a long enough period, you will gain fusion with your attentional principle or your spirit. Among the channels of absorption different spiritual groups use include inner sight (Jyoti), inner sound (Shabda), the combined current of taste and smell (Amrita), or the breath (Prana). The obstacles that aspirants and disciples encounter when they attempt this method include (a) getting blocked at some inner location so they cannot travel beyond this inner barrier, (b) the attention slipping out of absorption in the inner channel, and (c) fascination with inner content that keeps attention hovering at a selected level of awareness.
  7. Kundalini and Attunement (Shakti) – This approach holds that if you intensify your Kundalini sufficiently, it will carry your attention and awareness to profound levels of the Continuum. Those who have been Divinely empowered, moreover, can send the Light to lift attention and awareness into deep stages of absorption in the Superconscious mind. The risk of the Kundalini method is that if this energy is not correctly awakened, it can lead to Kundalini syndromes that make normal personality functioning difficult. The Attunement method is contingent upon the aspirant or disciple’s ability to sustain inner alertness and focus—here the wandering mind can interrupt the guided meditation that the Initiate bestows.

Each of these methods promoted to transcend into trans-noetic consciousness has their drawbacks; some aspirants and disciples do not make the breakthroughs with any of these methods. We encourage you to persist, nevertheless, and with sufficient dedicated practice, you too will have your breakthrough into the crystal clear level six awareness.

We train you in many of these methods that lead to trans-noetic breakthrough in our intermediate courses, the in-person Mudrashram® Master Course in Meditation, and the by-mail and online Accelerated Meditation Program.

The Circle of Creation

By George A. Boyd © 2020

Q: What can someone create in their life? I have heard of the Law of Attraction: in what areas can this dynamic matrix influence my life?

A: Through marshaling your intention, will, and desire, and focusing them one-pointedly on an objective you wish to manifest in your life, you set up the possibility of creation—to make what you intend happen. You can create at 12 major levels. Nine are in the external world; three are in the internal world of your mind:

  1. You make a change in your behavior and life conditions
  2. You make a change in your relationships with your family and friends; this may also include attracting a life partner, lover, or spouse
  3. You make a change in your workplace—this milieu can be a military, academic, government, artistic, scientific, religious, or business environment
  4. You make a change in your community—your city, town, or village
  5. You make a change in your county or district
  6. You make a change in your state or province
  7. You make a change in your nation
  8. You make a change in the international arena
  9. You make a change to the earth that affects the human, animal, plant, Moneran, and mineral kingdoms
  10. You use your attentional principle, spirit, or ensouling entity to work on the issue within your mind and to guide others to do the same, so you are able to engage in conscious work on yourself and facilitate inner work in others
  11. You use your attentional principle, spirit, or ensouling entity to bring about spiritual transformation and you progressively journey to Mastery and Liberation
  12. Upon reaching the platform of Mastery, you awaken others to transform their spiritual potentials and travel to Mastery and Liberation

Most people apply their ability to manifest in the external world: they change their life and the world around them. Those who have learned to meditate focus on the last three aspects of change, which transcend the Law of Attraction.

To focus your creation, it is helpful to answer the following questions:

  • What needs to be changed?
  • What will you change about that?
  • How will you change it?
  • Who will you enlist to change it with you?
  • How will you know the change was successful? What outcome will mark for you that you have created what you intended?
  • What will you change next?

We teach meditation methods in our intermediate mediation courses, the in-person Mudrashram® Master Course in Meditation and the by-mail and online Accelerated Meditation Program that enable you to work on internal change at levels 10 and 11.

Q: Could you elaborate on making a change in my behavior and life conditions in level one?

A: This zone comprises your life matrix. Your life matrix consists of:

  1. Your body – your appearance and your health
  2. Your emotions – your ability to cope with the events of your life
  3. Your mind – your ability to learn and remember; this is your capacity to learn new skills and knowledge
  4. Your issues – the areas of your life that are causing problems and unhappiness
  5. Your resources – the successes you’ve had in your life that you can draw upon to achieve what you want; this band also contains your financial reserves and the skills you have that enable you to earn or access money
  6. Your vision – your visualization of what you want your life to be like; what you wish to do, be, and have in your life
  7. Reality – Your intuition about where you are in your life right now and what needs to change to get you to where you want to be; this includes a realistic evaluation of what obstacles you must surmount to reach your goals

You might use the Law of Attraction in this level to improve your health, augment your ability to cope, facilitate your ability to learn key skills and knowledge to enhance your life, or increase your income and wealth. You could use the Law of Attraction to work on your issues and transform them, draw upon your resources to make your dreams that you visualize come true. You could also call upon the Law of Attraction to help you surmount your apparent obstacles and achieve what you have desired.

The key to this manifestation is clearly visualizing what you want and realizing that this condition you desire exists now; it is only a matter of allowing yourself to transform and change to be able to accept and live this new reality.
