Operating on All of Your Cylinders

By George A. Boyd © 2019

Q: What does the expression, to operate on all cylinders, mean?

A: We can draw an analogy between the awareness and functioning of human beings and the operation of a 12-cylinder car, like a Jaguar. These inner shifts in awareness and functioning appear to take 12 postures:

  1. Only senses function – You are aware of your body and the world around you. You dwell in the world of consensual reality at your waking state of awareness.
  2. Senses interface with memory – You activate the faculty of imagination. You are able to tell stories and express your creative ideas.
  3. Ego activation – Your desires are highlighted. The world revolves around you. You may wish to present the best impression of yourself to others, which may engage your defenses and lying to not show others any weakness or vulnerability.
  4. Mindfulness – You are able to collect your attention and observe the contents of awareness. You become aware of what is arising in the present time.
  5. Attentional travel – You are able to shift your attention and examine the focal points within your mind, and consciously shift perspective.
  6. Third eye opening – You awaken as the attentional principle, and you are able to use intention and suggestion to work on your life issues.
  7. Conscious life direction – You awaken the Self, which directs your entire personality through volition. You take charge of the direction of your life.
  8. Awakening of the heart – You become aware of your spirit. You awaken your inner wellsprings of love and devotion.
  9. Archetypal identification – You awaken a nucleus of identity and identity with it. You express the native virtue, abilities, and intuitive knowledge that this essence holds.
  10. Enlightenment – You become aware of the Soul and identify with it. You experience enlightenment and Gnosis.
  11. Higher octave awakening – You awaken an ensouling entity, spirit, or nucleus of identity in the Transplanetary, Cosmic, Supracosmic, or Transcendental bands of the Continuum. You identify with the essence and express it.
  12. Satchitananda – You awaken as the Infinite Consciousness, and behold each of these other octaves within you.

Those that meditate open the possibility to activate cylinders four to twelve; those that don’t awaken their witnessing faculty, commonly are delimited to operating only with their first three cylinders. We teach you how to awaken cylinders four through ten in our intermediate courses, the in-person Mudrashram® Master Course in Meditation and the by-mail and online Accelerated Meditation Program. We introduce you to cylinders eleven and twelve in the Mudrashram® Advanced Course in Meditation.

Through awakening your awareness and learning how to do inner work, you can activate each of your human and spiritual potentials, and begin functioning on all of your cylinders. If you are interested in learning how to do this, we can teach you how.

On the Potential Extension of Psychic Powers

By George A. Boyd © 2020

Q: What are the psychic powers?

A: These are abilities that dawn when your Soul awakens into the second Subplane of the Psychic Realm. They include:

  • Creation and destruction of thought forms
  • Etheric sensitivity to resonance and subtle vibrations
  • Clairvoyance, which is sensing of auras, the content of the unconscious mind, and visioning of entities in the inner dimensional worlds
  • Healing and ability to sense the health of the organs and tissues of the body
  • Receptive telepathy, hearing the thoughts of others and the voice of the guide
  • Active telepathy, the ability to make attunements
  • Knowledge of the eternal present (the wave of time on the Akashic Records)
  • Knowledge of past incarnations
  • Knowledge of the patterns of future spiritual development (the Plan)
  • Knowledge of the current state of evolution of the Soul

Q: Do psychic powers increase as your develop spiritually?

A: Generally, yes. There appear to be three orders of access to spiritual powers and the ability to operate them.

Level One – Energetic connection of the psychic body’s chakras with the physical brain, which leads to spontaneous “psychic flashes” or impressions

In some individuals, this connection may be made with their astral body. These ones receive these psychic impressions in hypnosis or in the dream state.

You do not experience voluntary control at this level. These impressions seem to “come out of the blue.”

Level Two – When the Soul evolves to the Psychic Realm, its transpersonal will can operate selected psychic powers voluntarily.

This appears in healers, those who make attunements, those who channel guides and other spiritual entities, and metaphysical counselors or psychic readers.

The operation of this higher octave of the will substands Psychic Realm ministry.

Level Three – This connects the chakras of the psychic vehicle with higher octaves of being—the Monad, the Astral Soul, or a Transcendental Sphere ensouling entity. Development to the Mahatma stage of the Bridge Path and beyond awakens the interpenetrating awareness, which bestows the highest sensitivity to each octave of being, and the immortal essences on the four poles of being—the attentional principle, the spirit, nuclei of identity and seed atoms of each vehicle of consciousness, and the ensouling entities at each level of the Continuum.

Opening these psychic channels to these higher octaves of being develops these gifts to the highest degree, ultimately anchoring them in the Soul of the Bridge Path and Satchitananda.

These extended powers include:

  • Inner vision, hearing, and feeling connecting the physical brain with your higher octave ensouling entities
  • Healing at all octaves of being
  • Making attunements spanning each octave of being
  • Reception of the guide’s teachings at each octave of being
  • Giving spiritual counsel as appropriate to each level of spiritual development, from the Subtle Realm to the Transcendental Sphere
  • Ability to read the current evolutionary station of the Soul and each ensouling entity at higher octaves of being
  • Awareness of past lives in other cycles of time

Those who reach these higher octaves of being must actively extend their powers through opening the plugged channels that block these higher order powers from functioning in this expanded capacity. You usually clear these channels during the development of Multiplane Mastery on the highest Plane of the Bridge Path, but some advanced disciples may do targeted inner work to develop them before this stage is reached. For example, these disciples may develop some of these extended powers at the Mahatma Stage.

We recommend that you study these three orders of psychic powers. Those of you who have Psychic Ministry written into your Soul’s crown of purpose, and who are interested in awakening these elements of your ministry, may find the Psychic Powers Workshop in the Public Section of our Public Webinar Access page to be evocative.

Concerning the Shift of Spiritual Perspectives

By George A. Boyd © 2020

Q: Many people seem to be locked into particular spiritual perspectives? What holds them there?

A: It is important to understand seven major substrates of identity. These appear to nest in seven discrete layers. The first four are your embodied expressions of your innate spiritual makeup—they are the innate expressions of your ensouling entity that dwells at the cutting edge of spirituality. The last three appear in those who ascend to the Bridge Path in the seventh stage of spiritual development—these are stages of the advanced disciple and Initiate in Mudrashram®.

  1. Emotional identity – These are the issues of destiny karma. They are the expressions of the personal unconscious that appear as the patterns of everyday unresolved life problems, recalcitrant emotional issues, and out-of-control habits and addictions.
  2. Integrated ego – These are you identified roles and ambitions. At this layer, you organize your life, and create a personal narrative to describe what you are doing and give reasons why you are doing it.
  3. Self – This is the core of your personality, which controls the activity of your Metaconscious, Subconscious, and Conscious mind through volition. This makes choices between alternatives, and plans for your future. At this station, you take charge of the direction your life takes. Coaching intervention aims to empower this aspect in you.
  4. Soul – This is your spiritual core that has come into Creation to carry out a mission, and aligns you with a purpose for your life. It expresses its gifts and genius in your life.
  5. Form of Mastery – Those who elect the Teacher Empowerment track on the Bridge Path empower the Form of the Disciple, which enables them to teach the Mudrashram® Master Course in Meditation; and the Mahatma form, which allows them to teach the Mudrashram® Advanced Course in Meditation.
  6. Multiplane Master Development – Those on the Teacher Empowerment track develop a form of Multiplane Mastery on Adi Sat Guru Desh. They are able to send forth an ensouling entity and vehicles of consciousness appropriate to the Ray of Mastery that they are developing.
  7. Adi Sat Guru – Upon completion of the form of Multiplane Mastery, the essence of the Adi Sat Guru dwells in his or her true form on the highest levels of the Bridge Path, on T6, or on T7.

Between layer four and five, some spiritual practices create an intervening layer of identity. For example, certain groups may awaken a nucleus of identity, an ensouling entity outside the cutting edge of spirituality, or the spirit in a domain outside the current station of the ensouling entity on the Path.

This intervening layer introduces an alternate state of perception and identity outside the innate makeup of the cutting edge ensouling entity. These become an alternate fulcrum of expression in the world at layer four, and largely supplant your native spiritual essence. This identification can be anchored in a nucleus of identity, an ensouling entity, or a spirit.

The pathway to this perceptual re-identification appears to follow seven steps:

  1. Introduction to this alternate state of identification through exposure to media – You can learn about this state though reading, audio, video, or a public lecture or seminar.
  2. First internal encounter – Through a guided meditation, you unite your attention with this essence and recognize it within you.
  3. Creation of desire for further union and transformation – Those who advocate that you develop this spiritual essence attempt to convince you of the value of remaining in union with that essence, and developing it along its track towards its origin. They may attempt to proselytize you through inspired discourse, sermons, or preaching.
  4. Initiation (Diksha) – You learn techniques to enable you to voluntarily re-unite your attention with this essence. In traditions that advocate you transform this essence along this track, they also teach you transformational techniques.
  5. Perceptual change – Through using these techniques you experience movement of this essence along its track through transformation. This changes your perception of the world and your sense of identity. It heightens the perspective of this essence relative to your innate perception of layers one to four.
  6. Derealization – With further transformation, a shift takes place where only the viewpoint of this essence seems real, and the perceptions of layers one to four appear to be illusory.
  7. Emissary of the Path – With advanced development of this spiritual essence, you act to help others discover this essence, identify with it, and ultimately transform it along this track. You may advocate for this reunification, grant initiation, describe the path to others, lead others to perceive that this essence is the ultimate reality, and assist them to advance upon the Path. You may assume the role of teacher, guide, and initiator for those who come to the Path.

Turning this inner dial of perception through transformation places this intervening layer between the innate embodied expression of the Soul (layers one through four)—and for those who have ascended into the seventh stage of spirituality—the advanced disciple’s and Initiate’s ministry (layers five through seven).

There are two major ways that this imposition of an intervening layer can be rectified:

  1. Rebalancing – You bring the essence back into alignment with the axis of being and fill in karma behind it, so it is no longer out of alignment. We use this process called dynamic rebalancing to ameliorate the symptoms of Kundalini syndromes, when aspirants have unintentionally triggered a Kundalini emergency through moving an essence off of the axis of being.
  2. Liberation – In this scenario, we assist you to transform this essence to its origin, which dissolves this intervening layer. When this drops out, only your native embodied layers (one through four)—and the advanced layers (five through seven) that those who reach the seventh stage of spiritual development access and activate.

Those who have been initiated into more than one Cosmic, Supracosmic, or Transcendental Path may need rebalance or liberate more than one intervening layer. These would be done one at a time until there are no more intervening layers, and only the native constellation remains.

We note that imbalances can also be introduced in the Subtle and Planetary Realms through awakening selected seed atoms or nuclei of identity, and then moving that center along its track. These types of imbalances typically rectify if you are unfolding your Soul at the cutting edge of spirituality: at a certain level, these wayward centers are re-captured and re-integrated into the axis of being.

Recapture is an option for those who have misaligned nuclei of identity in the Cosmic Sphere—particularly cosmic consciousness in the First Cosmic Initiation and cosmic soul awareness in the Second Cosmic Initiation. Opening of seed atoms on Supracosmic and Transcendental Paths, however, will typically have to be liberated to remove the intervening perceptual layers they introduce.

Q: Could you describe what different methods are used to rectify these imbalances for those who are locked in these states of awareness?

A: These are specific methods that can be utilized to rectify these imbalances and to break the hypnotic identification with these levels:

  1. Dynamic rebalancing – This method, which Initiates operating at layers six and seven can employ, involves moving dormant karma from upstream of where the imbalance has been generated, and filling in behind it. This effectively places the wayward center back into alignment with the axis of being again. As we have described above, this is typically applied when working with those who have Kundalini syndromes that stem from vehicular imbalances.
  2. Voluntary transformation – This imparts a transformational technique that unfolds that essence to liberation. Initiates at the Mahatma level and above can identify and convey this method to the aspirant, who can then voluntarily unfold this essence until it is liberated.
  3. Bodhisattva Project – Those established at layer six, who are developing their form as a Multiplane Master, has the ability to progressively liberate the spiritual essence in conjunction with development of one of the Rays of their Form as a Multiplane Master.
  4. Re-anchoring into the Soul – This method entails disidentifying with this essence and re-identifying with the Soul and its innate embodied expression. When the imbalance is not too severe and there is no Kundalini activation that locks attention to into this altered state of awareness, this method can be utilized. This is one of the major strategies that exit counselors—those who work to bring people out of cults through psychotherapy or pastoral counseling—exercise to get people back into touch with their authentic spirituality again.
  5. Transcending the intervening layer – This method guides an individual’s attention to move beyond the identity state of the intervening layer of perception and lifts it into a higher octave of being, where this intervening layer can be viewed objectively. This is possible for those who have reached the sixth stage of spirituality, where their cutting edge is anchored in the Transcendental Sphere—or the seventh stage, where they dwell on the Bridge Path, T6, or T7. These advanced disciples can view these intervening layers that have been activated in the Subtle, Planetary, Cosmic, and Supracosmic bands of the Great Continuum with detachment—this transcendent viewpoint is called Vairagya.
  6. Personal confinement – This strategy stops all meditation and keeps your attention within the confines of the personality. Through keeping attention grounded in this fashion, these higher states of awareness are delegated to the background, and decrease in their relative influence. With sufficient time, these altered states become a distant memory, and no longer plays a role in influencing values, beliefs, or behavior. [The root teacher of the Mudrashram® lineage had me adopt this posture to enable me to normalize my personality functioning and reground in my innate spirituality. See the article, “My Spiritual Journey” for more information on how this strategy was implemented in my life.]
  7. Grace-Bestowing Liberation – This method uses Light Immersion with shepherding of the spirit to lead the misaligned spiritual essences of others to liberation. An Initiate established in layer six or seven typically directs this Light of Translation to the spirit on a Transcendental Path. This method is usually reserved for those who have attained advanced stations on a Transcendental Path—intervening layers embedded in the Transcendental Sphere can be especially tenacious without this intervention from those established in Adi Sat Guru Desh.

We suggest you study the first four layers that make up your innate spirituality that is embodied in your human life. It will be beneficial for you to seek to understand the perceptual shifts that using transformational meditation outside the cutting edge of spirituality can produce.

You may also wish to inquire, if you have been initiated into one or more spiritual groups—and you have experienced a perceptual and identity shift as a result—how this shift has affected your ability to embrace and embody your innate human and transpersonal experience, anchored in layers one through four.

Q: What changes might mark having a perceptual and identify shift?

A: There are several markers we could tease out that might suggest to you that this re-identification has occurred:

  • You regard your life and personality as unreal (depersonalization).
  • The world appears to be unreal or dream-like (derealization).
  • You no longer feel your feelings as a human being—they are numb or deadened (dissociation).
  • It appears that you no longer cause your behavior, emotions, and thoughts—they appear to arise independently—and you no longer sense you have a human personality integration center, either ego or Self, which directs them.
  • You experience that a universal Voidness or Ocean of Being is the One Reality, and anything other than this universal nexus appears to you as an illusion.
  • You perceive that you are a spiritual essence—nucleus of identity, spirit, or ensouling entity—upon a discrete track across the Continuum to an apparent origin from which this essence came forth. You no longer have desire for any personal achievement; attaining this spiritual objective is the only thing that matters to you.
  • You regard others in their spiritualized form, and your relationships with others are based on beholding them as the spiritual essence with which you identify. If you were identified with cosmic consciousness, for example, you might see cosmic consciousness in other people, as being their true spiritual essence—and you would relate to them on that platform.
  • You find it difficult to return to your waking state of consciousness. Your attention seems fixed or fused in the spiritual essence with which you identify.

If you recognize these markers in yourself, it may indicate that you have moved into steps five and six on the scale of perceptual re-identification. We suggest you read the article on our website, “The Cutting Edge of Spirituality,” which will explicate the progression of imbalance and the markers that arise at each stage.

Stages of Experiencing the Attentional Principle

By George A. Boyd © 2020

Q: I’m not clear about how the attentional principle gains a greater ability to perceive and operate in meditation. Can you describe how the experience of the attentional principle changes with greater inner development and how it gains enhanced facility for meditation?

A: There are three major stages of experiencing the attentional principle:

Perceptual Union – At the first stage, your attention gains union with the attentional principle. With practice, you begin to be able to see and hear what the attentional principle is seeing and hearing in the present time.

Conscious Intentional Activity – At the second stage, you become aware of your attentional principle’s activity. For example, you become aware that your attentional principle is intending your transformational mantra; it is receiving the Light and sending this out via an attunement; or it is traveling in full consciousness through the dimensions of the upper Subconscious, the Metaconscious, and the Superconscious mind.

Independent existence – At stage three, you become aware that your attentional principle operates 24 hours a day, whether you are awake, dreaming, or are in sound sleep.

Regarding the progressive development of your encounter with the attentional principle, we can characterize a spectrum of states where your experience of this conscious essence deepens.

  1. Initial discovery of the location of the attentional principle (passive) – Through the use of hypnosis, psychoactive drugs, or reception of an attunement, you experience temporary union with your attentional principle. However, you cannot under your own efforts, return to this experience.
  2. Discovery of the attentional principle (active) – You move your attention through the focal points of the Conscious and Subconscious mind until your it reaches the feet of the tiny form of the attentional principle behind the pituitary center of the system of chakras of the Subconscious mind. After some practice, you can replicate this at will. We call this method, Purusa Dhyan. We describe this method in our article, “How to Open Your Own Third Eye” on our website. This meditation is the precursor to the more advanced practice of Raja Yoga, which we call direct projection.
  3. Fusion with your attention with the wave of consciousness – This state marks the dawning of stage one. When you achieve this level of control over your attention, you can experience what your attentional principle is sensing in the present time.
  4. Awareness of the intentional activity of your attentional principle – This deeper level of perception marks the beginning of stage two. You become aware of your attentional principle using its intention to travel through the inner Planes of Light, to activate your transformational mantra, and to make attunements. In this state, you become aware that you are doing conscious inner work; you can detect that you are consciously meditating.
  5. Microconcentration on the activity of the attentional principle’s chakras – In addition to intention that operates through the point between the eyebrows chakra of the tiny form of the attentional principle (Purusa), in this state you become aware of the activity of the other chakras of this form. In the throat center, you become aware of its ability to receive intuitive and telepathic impress. In the heart center, you become aware of its ability to contemplate. In its solar plexus center, you become aware of its ability to anchor suggestions in the vehicles of consciousness of the mind and in the unconscious mind. In its navel center, you become aware of its ability to empathically enter the experience of others. At the center at the base of the spine, you become aware of the attentional principles ability to marshal its forces to affirm and create what it wishes to manifest.
  6. Encounter with the guide – At this state, you become aware of your attentional principle’s dialog with an inner guide and its reception of guidance from that guide’s form. You become aware that your attentional principle is listening to the guide’s discourse and it is speaking to the guide through silent, telepathic thought. When you are able to maintain your attention in union with the attentional principle in this state, you experience conscious encounter with the inner guide, which we call Guru Dhyan.
  7. Enhanced noumenal experience – In this state, you have a heightened awareness of your attentional principle’s experience on the higher Planes, and you are able to clearly cognize what it sees and hears. You may become aware that it is attending inner schools or Temples of Wisdom. You may behold it carrying out directed Light Ministry under the aegis of the Masters. You may discover it is consciously communing with Masters of the Hierarchy of Light or Initiates of other spiritual traditions. You make this initial discovery of your attentional principle’s activities when you are meditating while you are awake.
  8. Turiya – This is the start of the third stage of experiencing the attentional principle, where you realize it has a fully independent existence. You become aware that your attentional principle is inwardly awake during all states of consciousness—waking, dream, sound sleep, coma, and death—and you experience your attentional principle is immortal, eternally conscious, and has full remembrance of its experiences on the inner Planes. You realize that its activity is not governed by where your attention is focused—rather, it has the ability to allow your attention to become aware of what your attentional principle is experiencing, and it has the ability to direct your attention to any focal point within the personality or any nodal point in the Superconscious mind, up to the attention’s origin.
  9. Spiritual empowerment – In this state, you become aware of the attentional principle’s ability to guide the attentional principle of others on the inner Planes. In the Mudrashram® tradition, this ability first dawns when we train advanced disciples, who reach the Form of the Disciple on the Bridge Path, to bestow the Raja Yoga Attunement during Teacher Training One. This ability is significantly augmented during Teacher Training Two, which occurs when disciples reach the Mahatma Stage on the Bridge Path, and they learn how to manifest the guide form to the attentional principle of others.
  10. Maha Chaitanya Samadhi – In this deepest stage of meditation, you gain the ability to return attention (chittam) to its origin, the form of the attentional principle (purusa) to its source, and the wave of consciousness (chetan) to where it originated in the Infinite Stage.

During the neophyte phase of spirituality, you may have the passive experience of your attentional principle of state one. You do not have control over this experience, but it shows you aspect of your mind beyond the confines of your Conscious mind.

The aspirant phase of spirituality activates states two through five. You become aware of your attentional principle and its abilities.

In the disciple phase, you have a heightened experience of your attentional principle through states six through eight. You are able to commune with the guide, have full awareness of your attentional principle’s adventures in the inner Planes, and finally realize it as an immortal, eternally conscious spiritual essence.

When you become an Initiate, you activate state nine. Here you are empowered to send the Light to awaken and guide the attentional principles of others.

You can learn to consciously encounter your attentional principle in state two through using the Purusa Dhyan technique. This allows you to open the inner seeing of your attentional principle, and experience what mystics call the opening of the third eye.

We teach you how to activate states three through five in our intermediate mediation courses, the in-person Mudrashram® Master Course in Meditation and the by-mail and online Accelerated Meditation Program. We teach you how to activate state six, which enables you to commune with the inner guide (Guru Dhyan) in the Mudrashram® Advanced Course in Meditation.

Steps seven and eight mark the attainment of advanced discipleship. This comes about gradually after several years of meditation, as your ensouling entity progressively opens deeper and deeper bands of the Great Continuum of Consciousness. Regular practice of Raja Yoga is key to this enhancement of your attentional principle’s experience; those who ignore this important aspect of core Integral meditation practice often lag behind in their ability to experience these more profound stages of attentional principle development.

Those spiritual traditions that grant the ability to bestow the Raja Yoga attunement can awaken and guide the attentional principles of others—these can demonstrate state nine. We empower out students to make this attunement in our advanced Teacher Training programs.

You experience state ten when you complete your spiritual journey in Mudrashram® and you arrive at the Infinite Stage at the top of the Seventh Transcendental Path. This is the most profound state of the experience of attention and the attentional principle, where you consciously experience their origin—where they originally came forth from the Divine.

If you will learn the steps of Raja Yoga meditation and practice it regularly, you will in time experience states two to ten of the development of the abilities of your attentional principle. Your meditations will become ineffable immersion in boundless vistas of sublime knowledge and endless love. And God will not be an abstraction: you will know the Divine As It Is.
